Emma Perkins, ECD Lowe Open & Founder of Who’s Your Momma
To celebrate the power of mentoring, on Tuesday we brought together some of the fantastic mentors we have as part of our ‘Who’s Your Momma’ programme.
Our mission is to increase the number of women within the creative industries who can maintain their careers, and realise their full potential. The programme aims to provide a network of opportunity and advice to Mentees and for Mentors it provides development opportunities as well as great personal satisfaction – it can be challenging, inspiring and enlightening.
The event sold out in just 10 minutes and a packed audience crammed themselves in to the Major Players offices – our sponsors for the event. Myself and Casey Bird lead discussions around mentoring skills and some of the key themes that our mentees have requested support on including . The crowd were treated to the wisdom and experience of some of the industries most inspiring women:
Dawn Sillet, a specialist trainer/coach working exclusively within the creative and media sector, Dawn volunteered to work as an advisor to our mentoring programme. Author of ‘How to be Zoomly a work’ delivering focused bite-sized learning.
Stefanie DiGianvincenzo Associate Creative Director, AKQA who in 2015 was chosen to be part of the Cannes See It Be It programme.
Fiona Harrington, MD at a boutique production studio called SALT who worked her way up from production assistant to Managing Director.
Julie Seal, Creative Strategist, Facebook & Instagrams Creative Shop. And an ex-creative director at agencies like Mother and R/GA.
Cheyney Robinson Chief Creative Officer, IBM Interactive Experience. In 2015 was a member of the Cyber Jury at Cannes Lions and Yellow and Black Pencil Juries at D&AD New Blood Festival and was also named in BIMA’s Hot 100 (Women in Tech).
Thanks to Major Players for hosting, to Casey Bird my awesome partner in crime running WYMM, Rachel Gott for working hard to match our mentor/mentee pairs, Silvia Sella for creating the programmes assets, our live Illustrator at the event – Laura Boardman and the support of the wider SheSays team including Marcie and the film crew.
Our SheSays Who’s Your Momma programme is open to any woman who works in the creative or marketing industries, in any role, mentorship is free and the programme is run by volunteers around their existing jobs.
We are desperate for more female mentors and are also looking for the support of ‘Manbassadors’ who can act as mentors at our speed mentoring events in 2016. Please register your interest here: http://weareshesays.com/category/yr_momma/
